Fitchburg State Shines At Greater Boston Track Invite

Sattiewhite and McWhinnie-Armstead finish 1-2 in the high jump for Fitchburg State 

Cambridge, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon, competing in the 2018 Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center, hosted by Harvard University this afternoon.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) paved the way for the Green and Gold after taking top honors in the high jump with an Open New England qualifying mark of 2.00 meters, while freshman Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) finished second overall in the event with a DIII New England qualifying jump of 1.95 meters.

Freshman Brandon Amello (Rowley, Mass.) placed fourth overall in the 200 meter (23.23) and fifth in the 400 meter (52.08) to qualify for DIII NE's in both events, while junior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) turned in a DIII New England qualifying time of 8.74 seconds in the 60m hurdles with a second place effort.

In the 3000 meter, senior Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.) notched a DII NE qualifying time of 8:48.32 with a tenth place finish, while classmate Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) added a second place finish in the 5000 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time of 15:29.27.

Sophomore Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.) and newcomer Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) turned in MASCAC qualifying times of 7.40 seconds and 7.43 seconds in the 60m dash, while in the 5000 meter, junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and sophomore Brandon DiGregorio (Somerville, Mass.) posted post-season qualifying times of 16:45.82 and 18:19.80 respectively.

In the mile, newcomer Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) (4:42.29) and junior Stephen McCall (Brockton, Mass.) (4:51.63) qualified for MASCAC's, while Monteiro and Joseph added post-season qualifying time of 2411 seconds and 24.09 seconds respectively.

In the field, senior Joseph Bernardini (Lowell, Mass.) notched a pair of MASCAC qualifying tosses in the shot put (12.30m) and the weight throw (12.10m), placing fourth overall in both events, while sophomore Kyle Nelson (Wilmington, Mass.) added a pair of post-season qualifying marks in the weight throw (10.28m) (7th) and the shot put (10.55m) (12th).

Junior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) rounded out the top Fitchburg State performances on the day, placing 11th overall in the 600 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:27.14.

The Fitchburg State men's track and field team returns to action next weekend as members compete at both Boston University and Tufts University on Saturday, January 27th.
