Falcons Shine At BU And MIT

Sheehy, Movsessian and Shimiyimana all collect top honors for Fitchburg State

Boston, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team competed at both the 2020 Art Farnham Invitational, hosted by MIT as well as at the 2020 John Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University this afternoon.

How It Happened

At the 2020 Art Farnham Invitational, hosted by MIT, junior Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) paced Fitchburg State, taking top honors in the 5000 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 15:45.84, while classmate Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, R.I.) added a first place effort in the mile with a post-season qualifying time of 4:45.29.

In the 60 meter dash, sophomore Cody Soderlund (Middleborough, Mass.) (8th) and junior Joel Monteiro (Brockton, Mass.) (9th) posted post-season qualifying times of 7.49 seconds and 7.50 seconds, while Monteiro (25.32) and Joshua Ilori (25.39) finished seventh and eighth in the 200 meter to qualify for MASCAC's.

Newcomer Romeo Fabre (Leominster, Mass.) placed fourth in the 800 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 2:12.65, while in the mile, classmate Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, Mass.), junior James Casale (Wakefield, Mass.) and junior Ian Poyant (Acton, Maine) placed third, fourth and fifth with times of 5:29.10, 5:37.36 and 6:15.82.

Freshman Adam Digman (Winchendon, Mass.) (3rd), Zion Barber-Amado (4th) and newcomer Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) (5th) turned in MASCAC qualifying times of 8.82, 8.90 and 9.09 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, while newcomer Matthew Catarius (Shrewsbury, Mass.) posted a time of 17:15.78 in the 5000 meter to finish third overall.

In the field, freshman Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) finished sixth in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.75 meters, while in the long jump, classmate Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) placed seventh with a post-season qualifying jump of 5.97 meters.

In the triple jump, Shimiyimana (1st), Jalen Simpson (2ns) and Brandon McNeil (4th) notched post-season qualifying marks of 12.44 meters, 12.31 meters and 11.52 meters, while freshman Beau Bernadeau (North Andover, Mass.) registered a MASCAC qualifying toss of 12.75 meters in the weight throw after placing eighth overall to close out the top effort for the Green and Gold on the day.

At the 2020 John Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, sophomore Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) posted a personal best time of 2:00.65 in the 800 meter to qualify for MASCAC's, while sophomore Trevor Fields (Shirley, Mass.) (2:01.17), junior Joe Weston (Middleton, Mass.) (2:11.26) and newcomer Samuel Flint (Methuen, Mass.) (2:14.61) all notched post-season qualifying times in the 800 as well with Weston securing a personal best time in the event.
