Men's Indoor Track Soar At Joe Donahue Games
Kwamo takes top honors in the high jump with DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.95 meter
Boston MA. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the 2023 Joe Donahue Games, hosted by Northeastern University at the Track at New Balance this afternoon.

How It Happened
Freshman Tyler Kwamo (Auburn, MA) led the way for the Green and Gold, taking top honors in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.95 meters, while sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) placed fourth overall In the shot put with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 13.82 meters.
Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) continued his strong start to the 2023-24 season, finishing second in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.01 meters and sixth in the long jump (6.15m), while classmate Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) added an eighth place, DIII NE qualifying toss of 15.57 meters as well as finishing seventh in the shot put (11.91m).
In the 60 meter, newcomer Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) (24th) and classmate Lennox Mercado (Acton, MA) (30th) turned in times of 7.40 and 7.48 seconds, while freshman Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) finished seventh in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 11.98 seconds.
Juniors Casey LaCombe (South Hadley, MA) (5:23.02) and Joshua Leaffer (North Andover, MA) (5:35.14) placed 13th and 14th in mile, while in the 500 meter, Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) (6th) and sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (7th) posted times of 1:12.73 and 1:15.76.
In the 800 meter, sophomore Omar Elmi (Worcester, MA), freshman Matt Telson (Everett, MA) and Gill finished 11th, 12th and 13th respectively with times of 2:09.87, 2:11.83 and 2:30.50, while newcomer Alvaro Castillo-Clottier Jr (Palmer, MA) (7th), Ansah (17th) and Mercado (18th) posted times of 23.01, 23.41 and 23.57 seconds in the 200 meter.
In the field, freshman John Koutsouoa (Bindsboro, PA) notched a ninth place effort in the shot put with a throw of 11.68 meters, while Bourassa added a 13th place toss of 13.35 meters in the weight throw.
In the long jump, Mercado finished tenth overall with a mark of 5.94 meters, while Kwamo placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.62 meters. Graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (6th), sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) (7th) and senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, MA) (8th) posted times of 9:56.15, 9:59.32 and 10:30.41 in the 3000 meter to round out the top Falcon efforts on the day.
