Men's Indoor Track Places Fourth At Branwen Smith King Invitational

Bourassa qualifies for DIII NE's in the weight throw and shot put

Medford, MA. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team placed fourth overall with a total of 85 points at the 2025 Branwen Smith King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University at the Gantcher Center.

Junior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Green and Gold, placing 2nd in the weight throw with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 15.00 meters and fifth in shot put with a DIII NE qualifying throw of 13.53 meters, while Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) took top honors in the weight throw with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 15.45 meters and eighth in the shot put with a MASCAC qualifying throw of 12.66 meters.

In the 60 meter, freshman Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (19th)(MASCAC qualifier), junior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) (27th) and freshman William McGurl (Billerica, MA) (28th),Logan Cashman (Carmel, NY) (29th) and Matthew Feole (Derry, NH) (30th) turned in times of 7.45, 8.04, 8.15, 8.21 and 8.39 seconds respectively, while in the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Patrick Shaughnessy (Plymouth, MA) (9.25), McGurl (9.76) and newcomer Joseph Imbracsio (North Billerica, MA) (10.29) notched post-season qualifying times after finishing tenth, 15th and 17th in the event.

In the 5000 meter, junior Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) (16:41.08) (MASCAC qualifier), graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (18:15.86) (MASCAC qualifier), senior Casey LaCombe (South Hadley, MA) (18:51.32) and sophomore Joshua Lancaster (Holden, MA) (19:35.16) finished first, third, fifth and sixth, while in the mile, newcomer Samuel Edwards (Townsend, MA) (8th) (MASCAC qualifier) and senior Joshua Leaffer (North Andover, MA) (17th) posted times of 4:39.95 and 5:45.29.

Sophomore Derrick Tawiah (Worcester, MA) (55.71) and classmate Marckenson Charles (Lowell, MA) (1:04.69) placed 12th and 16th, while in the 600 meter, junior Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (ninth), sophomore Omar Elmi (Worcester, MA) (tenth), classmate Matth Telson (Everett, MA) (11th) and sophomore Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) (13th) turned times of 1:31.70, 1:32.55, 1:33.49 and 1:36.08 with Madigan, Elmi and Telson qualifying for the post-season.

In the 800 meter, freshman Brendan Guenard (Andover, MA) (2:07.13) (MASCAC qualifier) and Leaffer (2:31.71) finished first and eighth, while in the 1000 meter, senior Taban Manyok (Lynn, MA) (sixth) (MASCAC qualifier), Edwards (12th) (MASCAC qualifier), sophomore Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) (14th) (MASCAC qualifier) and senior Joshua Lancaster (Holden, MA) (16th) posted times of 2:37.17, 2:46.47, 2:58.33 and 3:08.68 respectively.

In the 200 meter, Madden (24.83), Tawiah (25.32) and Shaughnessy (25.97) placed 24th, 28th and 30th, while in the 3000 meter, Guenard and Gill finished fifth and sixth with times of 10:54.23 and 11:11.65.

In the field, sophomore John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) finished 13th overall in the weight throw with a MASCAC qualifying toss of 11.25 meters, while Koutsouoa added a 23rd place throw of 10.38 meters in the shot put. In the long jump, freshman Christopher Adamchek (Carlisle, MA) placed sixth overall with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.33 meters, while sophomore Tyler Kwamo (Auburn, MA) added a fifth place effort in the triple jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 12.48 meters.

Rounding out the top Falcons finishers on the day were the 4x400 meter relay team of McGurl, Tawiah, Moriello and Guenard with a seventh-place time of 4:15.56, while the 4x800 meter relay team of Burns, Telson, Elmi and Manyok added a time of 8:50.45 with a fourth place effort
