Desrochers Named MASCAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Dracut, Mass. Native collects sixth accolade of the season

FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 13, 2013) – Senior Zach Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell) was recently named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office Sunday evening.

Desrochers collects his sixth weekly honor of the year after the men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams competed at the 2013 Open New England Championships hosted by Stonehill College over the weekend. The third year Falcon continued his strong throwing, earning a pair of Open-All New England honors.

The senior thrower placed third overall in the discus with an ECAC mark of 47.37 meters before continuing his solid efforts in the hammer throw, finishing fourth with an ECAC qualifying toss of 56.29 meters.

Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams return to action on Thursday as they compete at the 2013 ECAC Championships hosted by Springfield College, starting at 1 p.m.
