Fitchburg State Hosts Annual Eric Loeschner Memorial

Felton places second in the javelin: Conaty earns top honors in the pole vault

FITCHBURG, MASS. (April 19, 2014) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams were in action this afternoon as they hosted the 2014 Eric Loeschner Memorial Meet this afternoon at Elliot Field.

For the men, senior Patrick Conaty (Southington, Conn.) led the way, earning top honors in the pole vault with a DIII New England mark of 4.15 meters, while also placing third overall in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying jump of 6.36 meters.

Sophomore Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass.) placed sixth overall with a MASCAC qualifying time of 11:17.83 in the 3000m steeplechase, while newcomer Nicholas Levenson (Halifax, Mass.) notched a post-season time of 17.59 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles.

Freshman Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) registered a MASCAC qualifying time of 4:23.09 to place 16th overall in the 1500 meter, while senior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass.) turned a time of 4:40.86 to qualify for MASAC’s in the event as well.

On the track, junior Maximin Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass.) placed seventh in the 400 meter with a time of 53.18 seconds to qualify for MASCAC’s, while freshman Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) (15:44.69) and sophomore Michael Martin (Gardner, Mass.) (17:42.04) placed second and 13th respectively in the 5000 meter to qualify for the post-season.

Sophomore Charles De La Rosa (Westfield, Mass.) placed third overall in the 100 meter dash with a MASCAC qualifying time of 11.43 seconds, while classmate Kwaku Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) finished with a time of 11.65 in the 100m to qualify for the MASCAC championships.

In the 400 meter hurdles, junior Ethan Gorecki (Winchendon, Mass.) placed second overall with a MASCAC qualifying time of 59.74, while Levenson (3rd) and sophomore Brandon Brideau (Leominster, Mass.) (6th) also notched post-season times of 59.77 and 1:05.54.

Sophomore Richard Ethier (Shirley, Mass.) (7th), junior Jim Quinlan (N. Andover, Mass.) (9th), newcomer Chauncey Beatty (Waldorf, Md.) (10th) and freshman Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) (12th) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 2:01.38, 2:02.83, 2:03.10 and 2:04.15 respectively in 800m, while the men’s 4x400 meter relay team of Ethier, Quinlan, Beatty and Gorecki took top honors with a DIII New England qualifying time of 3:29.45.

In the field, freshman Patryck Backiel (Fairfield, Mass.) placed third in the pole vault with a post-season qualifying height of 3.85 meters, while Rocheleau finished fourth overall with a height of 3.55m in the pole vault.

Gorecki registered a personal best and MASCAC qualifying mark of 49.52 meters in the javelin (3rd), while sophomore Akhiel Willis (Acton, Mass.) turned in a solid fourth place effort in the triple jump with a post-season jump of 12.55 meters.

Levenson (5.90m), freshman Cameron Snyder (Shawnee, Kan.) (5.77m) and sophomore Jaime Rullo (Carver, Mass.) (5.56m) all posted MASCAC honors in the long jump, while senior Tim Rymer (Littleton, Mass.) (33.53m) and junior David Oster (Port Monomouth, N.J.) (11.33m) notched post-season qualifying throws in hammer throw and shot put to round out the top effort for the men’s squad.

On the women’s side, junior Rebecca McClure (Lyndeborogh, N.H.) earned top honors in the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying vault of 3.38 meters, while freshman Emilee Felton (Millers Falls, Mass.) placed second overall in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying throw of 36.89 meters

Junior Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass.) was also strong, placing second overall in the 100 meter with a DIII NE qualifying time of 12.86, while classmate Mary Wooten (Lisbon, Maine) and sophomore Shamira Nambafu (Framingham, Mass.) both notched MASCAC qualifying times of 14.22 and 14.32 seconds in the event.

On the track, seniors Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.), Karollynn Wickless-Adams (Lansdale, Penn.) and Stephanie Irvin (Malden, Mass.) and junior Gina Anglini (Fitchburg, Mass.) turned in MASCAC qualifying times of 1:04.73, 1:06.41, 1:09.04 and 1:05.86 respectively in the 400 meter, while sophomore Elizabeth Ward (Ashby, Mass.) posted a pair of MASCAC qualifying times in the 1500 meter (5:45.67) and 5000m (21:35.73).

In the 800m, junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and freshman Stephanie Stearns (Mystic, Conn.) both registered MASCAC qualifying honors with times of 2:29.24 and 2:37.83 respectively, while Anglini posted a time of 28.98 to qualify for MASCAC’s in the 200 meter.

In the field, junior Sarah Elliot (E. Meadow, N.Y)) was solid for the Falcons, placing sixth in the shot put with MASCAC qualifying mark of 10.14 meters, while also qualifying for MASCAC’s in the hammer throw (28.09) and discus (31.68m). Freshman Morgan Steele (Somerset, Mass.) posted a post-season mark of 8.80m before adding a personal best toss of 37.51 meters in the hammer throw.

In the long jump, sophomore Shaunna Lizek (Lunenburg, Mass.) placed sixth overall with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.58 meters, while junior Ebony Schuerman (Fitchburg, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying jump of 4.30 meters to round out the top Falcon performances for the women.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams return to action on Saturday as they compete at the 2014 MASCAC/Alliance Championship Meet hosted by UMass Dartmouth, starting at 11 a.m.
