Lynch To Be Inducted Into Westfield State Athletic Hall Of Fame

Falcons assistant track coach to be enshrined on October 24th

FITCHBURG, Mass. (August 19, 2014) – Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track and field throwing coach and former Westfield State Owl standout women’s discus thrower Nora Lynch will be inducted into the Westfield State University Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 24th.

“I coached her brother here at Fitchburg State and remember her as a great competitor and student athlete at Westfield State,” Fitchburg State men’s track and field head coach Jim Jellison said of Lynch. “She has been a great coach here for the past 11 years and one of the best throwing coaches in all of New England”.

Nora currently holds the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championship Meet record in the discus with a toss of 127 feet, 11 inches (38.98 meters), which occurred on her final throw in the 2000 MASCAC/New England Alliance Championship Meet.

Lynch, a three-time MASCAC/New England Alliance champion in the discus (1998,1999, 2000), as well as earning top honors in the hammer throw in 2000. Nora also placed first overall at the 2000 MASCAC/New England Alliance indoor championship in the 20 pound weight throw.

Following her graduation from Westfield State, Lynch has been working as a teacher at the Early Childhood Education Center in Dedham, while also serving as the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track and field throwing coach, where she has coached a pair of All-Americans and five NCAA DIII Championship qualifiers.
