De La Rosa qualifies for DIII NE’s in 800m to pace men: Robert and Felton posts DIII NE qualifying marks to lead women

MEDFORD, Mass. (March 30, 2014) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams were in action Saturday afternoon as they competed at the 2014 Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University.

On the men’s side, sophomore Charles De La Rosa (Westfield, Mass.) posted a MASCAC and DIII New England qualifying time of 11.27 seconds in the 100 meter dash with an eighth place finish in the event.

Sophomore Michael Martin (Gardner, Mass.) also earned a pair of MASCAC qualifying and personal best times in the 1500m (4:41.54) and in the 800 meter (2:20.10), while classmate Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass) collected a MASCAC qualifying time in the 10k of 36:25.28.

On the track, freshmen Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) and Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) and junior Jim Quinlan (North Andover, Mass.) all registered MASCAC times of 4:15.09, 4:15.29 and 4:15.48 respectively in the 1500m, while newcomer Brandon Hannon (Pelham, Mass.) put forth a post-season time of 2:03.43 in the 200 meter.

In the 400 meter, sophomore Richard Ethier (Shirley, Mass.) collected a MASCAC qualifying time of 52.59, while junior Maximin Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon performances for the men with a post-season qualifying vault of 2.95 meters in the pole vault.

For the ladies, junior Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass.) placed seventh overall in the 100 meter dash with a MASCAC and DIII NE qualifying time of 12.86 seconds, while freshman Emilee Felton (Millers Falls, Mass.) posted a DIII New England qualifying mark of 33.32 meters in the javelin. Junior Rebecca McClure (Lyndeborough, N.H) was also strong, registering a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the pole vault (2nd) with a height of 2.90 meters and the 200 meter dash (27.47).

On the track, senior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.) turned in MASCAC qualifying time of 2:33.20 in the 800m, while Robert collected her second MASCAC qualifying time on the afternoon with time of 28.87 seconds in the 200 meter.

Freshman Stephanie Stearns (Mystic, Conn.) and sophomore Elizabeth Ward (Ashby, Mass.) both qualified for MASCAC’s in the 1500m with times of 5:27.96 and 5:44.22, while sophomore Jessica Mangan (Everett, Mass.) also notched a post-season time of 6:15.47 in the 1500 meter.

The women’s 4x100 meter relay team of Robert, sophomore Shaunna Lizek (Lunenburg, Mass.), classmate Angelica Picucci (Leominster, Mass.) and newcomer Morgan Steele (Somerset, Mass.) registered a MASCAC qualifying time of 56.81, while Steele rounded out the top performances for the women with a post-season toss of 33.83 meters in the hammer throw.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams return to action on Saturday as it competes at the 2014 UMass Dartmouth Corsairs Classic, beginning at 11 a.m.
