Fitchburg State Takes On UNH Wildcat Invite

Felton places second overall in the javelin to lead women: Conaty paces men with first place finish in the pole vault

DURHAM, N.H. (April 12, 2014) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams were in action this afternoon as they competed at the 2013 Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of New Hampshire this afternoon.

Senior Patrick Conaty (Southington, Conn.) paved the way for the men, earning top honors in the pole vault with a DIII New England qualifying vault of 4.17 meters, while also placing third overall in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.23 meters. Newcomer Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) put for a solid effort in the 3000 meter steeplechase, posting a MASCAC qualifying time of 10:43.14.

Freshman Nicholas Levenson (Halifax, Mass.) registered a post-season qualifying time of 17.31 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, while also adding MASCAC qualifying marks in the 400 meter hurdles (60.44), high jump (1.75m) and long jump (5.61m).

In the 1500 meter, junior Jim Quinlan (N. Andover, Mass.) (4:10.28), freshman Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mas.) (4:18.17) and classmate Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) (4:20.20) all qualified for MASCAC’s, while senior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass.) posted a post-season time of 17:45.00 in the 5,000 meter.

On the track, the men’s 4x100 relay team of Conaty, sophomore Akhiel Willis (Acton, Mass.), classmate Charles De La Rosa (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman Trenton Garlington (Holbrook, Mass.) turned in a DIII New England qualifying time of 44.52, while sophomore Richard Ethier (Shirley, Mass.) ran a 2:03.50 in the 800 meter to qualify for MASCAC’s.

In the 100 meter dash, sophomore Kwaku Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) (11.44), Garlington (11.59) and De La Rosa (11.22) all notched MASCAC qualifying times, while Garlington and De La Rosa added post-season times of 23.44 and 23.71 in the 200 meter as well.

Junior Ethan Gorecki (Winchendon, Mass.) put forth a solid time of 60.44 seconds to qualify for MASCAC’s in the 400 meter hurdles, while De La Rosa (5.60m), Willis (5.95), junior Maximin Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass.) (5,49m) and sophomore Kristopher Tardy (Holyoke, Mass.) (5.55m) collected post-season marks in the long jump.

In the field, senior David Farland (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman Tyler Miller (Greenfield, Mass.) registered a MASCAC qualifying marks of 1.80 meters and 1.75 meters in the high jump, while Hannon rounded out the top performances for the men with a MASCAC qualifying vault of 3.27m in the pole vault.

For the ladies, freshman Emilee Felton (Millers Falls, Mass.) led the way for the women, placing second overall in the javelin with a toss of 33.61 meters, while sophomore Alexis Podedworny (Webster, Mass.) put forth a solid MASCAC qualifying and personal best time of 76.41 in the 400m. Junior Mary Wooten (Lisbon, Maine) was strong as well, collecting a pair of post-season qualifying times of 13.88 (100 meter) and 28.76 (200m).

Junior Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass.) posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 12.71 in the 100 meter dash, while senior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.) turned in a time of 63.82 in the 800 meter to qualify for MASCAC’s.

On the track, senior Karollynn Wickless-Adams (Lansdale, Penn.) notched a post-season time of 2:40.59 in the 800 meter, while junior Rebecca McClure (Lyndeborough, N.H.) added a MASCAC qualifying and season best time of 27.47 in the 200m.

The women’s 4x100 meter relay team Robert, junior Gina Angelini (Fitchburg, Mass.), sophomore Shaunna Lizek (Lunenburg, Mass.) and classmate Angelica Picucci (Leominster, Mass.) ran a season best time of 55.10, while in the 100m Lizek (14.54) and sophomore Shamira Nambafu (Framingham, Mass.) (14.44) qualified for the MASCAC’s.

Junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 2:35.35 in the 800 meter, while Robert (4.51m) and junior Ebony Schuerman (Fitchburg, Mass.) (4.37m) notched MASCAC qualifying efforts in the long jump.

In the field, newcomer Morgan Steele (Somerset, Mass.) registered a post-season toss of 20.47 meters in the javelin, while adding a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.27 meters in the long jump to round out the top Falcon efforts for the ladies.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams return to action next Saturday as they host the 2014 Eric Loeschner Meet, starting at 10:30 a.m.
