Fitchburg State Track Earns Fourth In Pre-Season Poll
Men picked fourth with eight points; Women collect four points to place fourth
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams were recently selected fourth in the 2015 MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
The Bears of Bridgewater State University and the Owls of Westfield State University are the pre-season picks to win their respective 2015 MASCAC Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field championships in a vote of the league's coaches.
Bridgewater State claimed three first place votes for a total of 15points to top Westfield State, which amassed 13 points, including the other two place ballots. The Lancers of Worcester State followed in third place with ten points, while Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the poll in fourth and fifth place with eight and four points, respectively.
On the women's side, Westfield State captured three of the five first place votes on the women's side to amass 15 points and narrowly outdistance runner-up Bridgewater State's total of 13 points that included the two remaining first place votes. Worcester State followed in third place with 10 points, while Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the poll in fourth and fifth place with eight and four points, respectively.
Bridgewater State, Fitchburg State, Massachusetts Maritime and Worcester State open their 2015 outdoor season on Saturday, March 21st at the 2015 Bridgewater State Invitational, Westfield State heads to the Wesleyan University Invitational.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
