Fitchburg State Soars at Smith College Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Smith College on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Kwaku Mensah placed 8th in the 100 meter in 11.82. Junior Chauncey Beatty was the top finisher in the 400 in 50.77 (MASCAC and D3), and placed sixth in the 200 in 23.40 (MASCAC). Junior Nicholas Levenson was fourth in the 400 in 52.27 and third in the 200 in 23.25 (both MASCAC).

Senior Richard Ethier, IV was third in the 400 in 51.87 (MASCAC) and ran the 200 in 24.24. Junior Brandon Hannon ran the 800 in 2:03.65, good for fourth place (MASCAC).

Junior Brian Amaral finished third in the 1500 in a personal best 4:13.37. Amaral also finished sixth in the 800 in a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:04.90. Five more Falcons posted MASCAC times in the 1500, including freshman Joseph Darrigo (4:28.42), freshman Anthony Darrigo (4:29.30), sophomore Liam Eble (4:36.94), sophomore Daniel Fournier (4:39.40), and senior Michael Martin (4:44.73).

Sophomore Jake Hastings won the 5000 meter in 15:44.73, a MASCAC qualifying time.

Freshman Cameron Stalters won the javelin at 59.01 meters (193 feet 6 inches). Stalters also finished first in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.97. In the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Austin Landress finished second in 61.43, and senior Brandon Brideau finished third in 62.53.

Sophomore Ben Sattiewhite took top honors in the high jump at 1.95 meters and long jump at 5.88 meters (MASCAC). Junior Connor Flynn recorded a 6.09 meter long jump to qualify for MASCACs.

Sophomore Timothy Breen finished second in the pole vault at 4.25 meters (MASCAC and D3)

Senior Akhiel Willis finished 2nd in the triple jump at 12.56 meters (MASCAC). Willis also ran the 100 in 11.96.

Sophomore Joseph Bernardini won the hammer throw with a distance of 38.01 meters.

The Falcons return to competition next Saturday, hosting the Eric Loeschner Memorial.
