Amaral Leads Fitchburg State at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team competed at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons finished eighth out of 12 Alliance teams and 4th in the MASCAC.

Junior Brian Amaral turned in an outstanding day of performances. He won both the Alliance and MASCAC 10,000-meter run with a D3, ECAC and All-New England qualifying time of 32:02. Amaral returned in the 5000-meter run, placing first in the MASCAC results and second in the Alliance with a D3 and All-New England qualifying time of 15:2179.

Sophomore Ben Sattiewhite finished second (MASCAC) and third (Alliance) in the high jump with a 2.03 meter effort which puts him 13th on the national list.

The 4 x 100 relay team of senior Kwaku Mensah, junior Nicholas Levenson, senior Eric Custadio and freshman Daniel Nkansah ran their best time of the year at 44.04 to qualify for D3.

The 4 x 400 relay team of Levenson, senior Richard Ethier, IV, junior Chauncey Beatty and freshman Austin Landress qualified for D3 with a season best 3:27.65.

Beatty also ran the 400-meter dash in a season best 50.33 (7th in Alliance) and the 400-meter hurdles in 57.20 (7th in Alliance).

Ethier also finished the 800 meter in sixth place overall and third in the MASCAC with a time of 1:59.45.

Freshman Joseph Darrigo posted a 10.23.42 in 3000-meter steeplechase, good for third in the MASCAC. Freshman Anthony Darrigo ran 35:00.03 in 10,000 meter and 16:58.94 in the 5,000 meter (6th in MASCAC).

In the javelin, freshman Cameron Stalters finish third overall andsecond in the MASCAC at 58.75.

The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team competes next Saturday at the 2016 Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College.
