Fitchburg State Shines At DIII NE Championships

Stalters qualifies for Open NE's in the javelin with a toss of 57.47m

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –  The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track & field team completed in the 2016 DIII New England Championships this afternoon, hosted by Springfield College at the Blake Track & Field Complex.

The 4x800 meter relay team of senior Richard Ethier, IV, junior Chauncey Beatty, classmate Brandon Hannon and sophomore Jake Hastings registered All DIII NE honors with an eighth place time of 7:56.53 to qualify for ECAC's, while newcomer Cameron Stalters placed third overall in the javelin with an Open NE qualifying toss of 57.47m to garner All DIII NE accolades.

Sophomore Brian Amaral also collected All DIII NE honors, placing eighth in the 5000 meter with an ECAC qualifying time of 15:10.04, while classmate Ben Sattiewhite posted a third place effort in the high jump with a mark of 1.93m to notch All DIII NE honors as well.

Hastings added a solid time of 4:01.95 in the 1500 meter, while in the triple jump, senior Akhiel Willis posted a mark of 12.63 meters. The 4x100 meter relay team of senior Kwaku Mensah, classmate Eric Custadio, junior Nicholas Levenson and newcomer Daniel Nkansah turned in a time of 44.70 seconds.

Rounding out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon were Levenson (57.36) and Beatty (51.11) in the 400 meter hurdles and the 400 meter dash respectively.

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track & field teams will be in action again next weekend, as select members compete in the 2016 Open New England Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
