Fitchburg State Soars At Corsair Classic

Stalters qualifies for Open NE's in javelin with second place toss of 63.87 meters

DARTMOUTH, Mass. –The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track team was in action this afternoon, placing eighth with a total of 47 points at the 2017 Corsair Classic Track & Field Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

Sophomore Cameron Stalters continued his stellar 2017 outdoor campaign, placing second overall in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying toss of 63.87 meters. With that throw, Statlers currently ranks fourth in the nation in the javelin.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite took top honors in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.98 meters, while junior Brian Amaral registered a DIII NE qualifying time of 33:11.67 in the 10,000 meter with a second place finish.

In the 1500 meter, junior Jake Hastings (6th), senior Matthew Cuomo (14th) and sophomores Anthony Darrigo (18th) and Joseph Darrigo (25th) qualified for MASCAC's with times of 4:11.58, 4:18.64, 4:23.81 and 4:30.44 respectively.

Senior Chauncey Beatty notched a post-season qualifying time of 51.13 seconds with a fourth place effort in the 400 meter, while classmate Joseph Little placed 14th overall in 800 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:05.56.

In the field, junior Joseph Bernardini (6th) and freshman Kyle Nelson (7th) collected MASCAC qualifying tosses of 12.85m and 12.80m in the shotput, while sophomore Wilkerson Pierre (4th) and freshman David Sicinski (8th) notch MASCAC qualifying marks of 12.16m and 3.05m in the long jump and pole vault respectively to round out the top efforts for the Green and Gold on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track team returns to action on Friday as it travels to Regis College for a twilight meet, starting at 4 p.m.
