Fitchburg State Hosts Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite

Stalters takes top honors in the javelin with an Open NE qualifying toss of 66.77 meters

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track team was in action this afternoon, placing third overall with a total of 77 points as it hosted the 2017 Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational at Elliot Field.

Sophomore Cameron Stalters led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying mark of 66.77 meters, while also turning in a DIII New England qualifying time of 15.84 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles with a second place finish.

Junior Joseph Bernardini finished third in the shot put with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 14.63 meters, while senior Ben Sattiewhite placed first overall in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 2.00 meters. Junior Brian Amaral was also solid for the Falcons, placing first overall in the 5000 meter with a time of 15:34.92.

In the 10,000 meter, sophomore Anthony Darrigo took top honors with a MASCAC qualifying time of 34:54.02, while in the 800 meter junior Jake Hastings (9th), senior Matthew Cuomo (12th) and classmate Joseph Little (13th) turned in post-season qualifying times of 2:02.22, 2:02.79 and 2:02.91 respectively.

In the 3000 meter steeple chase, sophomore Joseph Darrigo (10:20.97) and senior Brandon Hannon (11:27.40) placed third and tenth respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while Hastings placed second overall in the 5000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 4:09.45.

In the 400 meter hurdles, senior Nicholas Levenson (58.91) and freshman Austin Landress (59.93) qualified for MASCAC's, placing third and seventh respectively, while Cuomo placed 15th in the 200 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 23.89 seconds.

In the field, freshman David Sicinski finished tenth in the pole vault with a MASCAC qualifying vault of 3.20 meters, while in the long jump, freshman Marckdonard Bastien (10th) and junior Connor Flynn (11th) posted MASCAC qualifying marks of 6.09 and 6.01 meters respectively.

Senior Chauncey Beatty placed ninth in the high jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 1.75 meters, while newcomer Wilkerson Pierre (10th) and classmate Kyle Nelson (8th) qualifying for MASCAC's in the triple jump and shot put. Sophomore Brendon Courtney rounded out the top efforts for the Falcons, placing tenth overall in the hammer throw with a post-season qualifying toss of 36.82 meters.

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track team returns to action next weekend as they compete in the 2017 Elmer Swanson Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
