Fitchburg State Soars At Elmer Swanson Invite

Stalters takes top honors in the Javelin with Open NE qualifying mark of 67.23 meters

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. –The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track and field team was in action this afternoon, competing in the 2017 Elmer Swanson Outdoor Track Classic Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan University.

Sophomore Cameron Stalters led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying mark of 67.23 meters, while senior Ben Sattiewhite turned in a DIII New England qualifying jump of 1.90 meters in the high jump with a first place effort in the event.

In the 800 meter, junior Jake Hastings (2:01.99), senior Matthew Cuomo (2:04.92) and freshman Austin Landress (2:05.71) qualified for MASCAC's, placing third, sixth and seventh respectively, while junior Mark Tonelli finished first overall in the 3000 meter with a time of 10:19.31.

Senior Brandon Hannon notched a post-season qualifying time of 10:43.40 in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a third place finish, while in the 1500 meter, junior Brian Amaral (3rd) and sophomores Anthony Darrigo (7th) and Joseph Darrigo (9th) qualified for MASCAC's with times of 4:08.44, 4:21.58 and 4:28.31 respectively.

In the 100m, senior Trenton Garlington (11.55) and classmate Eric Custadio (11.59) placed first and second overall, while fellow senior Nicholas Levenson turned in a MASCAC qualifying time of 59.86 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles with a second place finish.

In the field, junior Joseph Bernardini took top honors in the hammer throw with toss of 36.12 meters, while newcomer Kyle Nelson placed first overall in the shotput with a MASCAC qualifying throw of 12.37 meters.

Sophomore Wilkerson Pierre placed first overall in the triple jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 12.86m, while adding a second place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.65m. Freshman David Sicinski qualified for MASCAC's in the pole vault with a fourth place vault of 3.20 meters, while Levenson rounded out the top efforts on the afternoon with a MASCAC qualifying jump of 1.75 meters in the high jump to qualify for MASCAC's

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track team returns to action next weekend as it competes in the 2017 MASCAC/Alliance Outdoor Championships, hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday, starting at 10 AM.
