Fitchburg State Places Fourth At MASCAC Championships

Amaral crown MASCAC/Alliance champion in both the 10,000 and 5,000 meter

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track & field team placed fourth overall with a total of 75 points at the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Outdoor Championships, hosted by Westfield State University this afternoon.

Sophomore Cameron Stalters continued his stellar 2017 outdoor track campaign, claiming the MASCAC/Alliance crown in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying toss of 62.86 meters as well as qualifying for DIII New England's in the 110 meters hurdles with third place time of 15.52 seconds.

Junior Brian Amaral captured a pair of MASCAC/Alliance Championships, taking top honors in the 10,000 meter (33:45.67) and the 5,000 meter (15:48.67), while in the 400 meter hurdles, senior Nicholas Levenson (4th) and freshman Austin Landress (5th) qualified for DIII NE's with times of 56.87 and 57.61 seconds respectively.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite was also solid for the Green and Gold, turning in a third place finish in the high jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.98 meters, while junior Joseph Little posted a seventh place time of 2:03.47 in the 800 meter.

Sophomore Joseph Darrigo placed fourth overall in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a time of 10:22.51, while junior Jake Hastings finished third in the 1500 meter (4:00.06) and fifth in the 5,000m (17:05.68).

In the field, newcomer Kyle Nelson turned in an eighth place effort in the shot put with toss of 13.06 meters, while classmate David Sicinski rounded out the top Falcons efforts on the afternoon with a ninth place finish in the pole vault (3.05m).

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track team returns to action next weekend as select members complete in the 2017 Division III New England Championships, hosted by Williams College, starting on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
