Shimiyimana and Bourassa lead the way for Green and Gold

Medford Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team placed seventh with a total of 48 points at the 2023 Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University at the Dussault Track this afternoon.

How It Happenedf

Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons placing first overall in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.29 meters as well as adding a fifth place effort in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying jump of 6.16 meters, while freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) notched a DIII New England qualifying mark of 52.75 meters with a second place finish in the javelin.

Sophomore Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) finished fourth in the long jump (6.16M) and third in the 110 meter hurdles (17.37)  to qualify for the post-season  while junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) finished fourth in the 1500 meter and sixth in the 5000 meter with MASCAC qualifying times of  4:11.16 and 15:24.25.

In the 100 meter, Bourassa (9th) and newcomer Cole Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) (24th) turned times of 12.20 seconds and 13.56 seconds, while in the 400 meter, senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) (52.70) and newcomer Nicholas Polancoi (Miami, Fla.) (55.82)  finished 11th and 26th respectively to qualify for MASCAC'S.

Senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) (32nd) and freshman Omar Elmi (Worcester, Mass.) and classmate Brady Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) (41st) posted times of 2:12.39, 2:14.41 and 2:15.64, while newcomer Michael Burns (Worcester, Mass.) (16:44.41) and junior Elijah Stathis (Northampton, Mass.) (18:06.12) finished 18th and 26th in the 5000 meter with Burns setting a new PR.

The 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.), newcomer Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.), Elmi and Madigan posted a ninth place time of 3:55.59, while in the 400 meter hurdles, Michaelidis (14th) and senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (15th) registered MASCAC qualifying times of 1:07.11 and 1:07.31.

In the field, senior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) finished fifth in the pole vault with a post-season qualifying vault of 3.70 meters, while sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.) (8th) and freshman Hayden Frew (Brockton, Mass.) (10th) notched tosses of 11.25 meters and 10.09 meters.

In the hammer throw, Bourassa (32.12M) and Monette (30.33M) placed 14th and 17th overall, while freshman Robert Williams rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon turning in a time of 31.28 seconds in the 200 meter.
