Falcons Place Third At Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite

Manyok, Shimiyimana and Bourassa qualify for DIII NE's

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team place third with a total of 79.5 points at the annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Elliot Field this afternoon.

How It Happenedf

Junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) paced the Falcons with a first place, DIII New England qualifying time of 9:41.38 in the 3000 meter steeple chase as well as finishing first overall in the 800 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 1:58.52.

Junior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) took top honors in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying jump of 13.51 meters as well as placing notching a fifth place, MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.15 meters in the long jump, while newcomer Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) registered a DIII New England qualifying and personal best toss of 55.74 meters in the javelin after placing third overall.

In the 3000 meter steeple chase, freshman Michael Burns (Worcester, Mass.) (11:16.38) and junior Angelo Pinto (Chaplin, Conn.) (11:49.61) finished tenth and 13th respectively to qualify for MASCAC'S, while newcomer Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 55.86 seconds after placing 14th in the event.

Junior Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) placed third overall in the 110 meter hurdles with a post-season qualifying time of 16.50 seconds, while in the 1500 meter, sophomore Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 4:32.61 with a tenth place effort.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Shimiyimana, freshman Nicholas Polanco (Miami, Fla.), junior Elijah Zaire-McKnight (Tracy, Calif.) and senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) turned in a second place time of 44.90 seconds, while in the 800 meter, sophomore Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) (2:11.99) and freshman Omar Elmi (Worcester, Mass.) (2:17.12) finished 14th and 21st.

Felix continued his strong showing, placing fourth in the 100 meter (11.17) and sixth in the 200 meter (22.92) to qualify for MASCAC's in both events, while in the 400 meter hurdles, senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (1:07.83) and Michaelidis (1:12.69) placed seventh and tenth.

In the field, senior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) placed sixth in the pole vault with a post-season qualifying vault of 3.55 meters, while in the shot put, Bourassa (6th), sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.) (11th) and newcomer Hayden Frew (Brockton, Mass.) (15th) posted throws of 11.85M, 11.04M and 10.27M.

Sacramone registered an 11th place, MASCAC qualifying mark of 11.70 meters, while in the discus, Bourassa (34.59M), Monette (29.50M) and Frew (22.96M) placed 14th, 26th and 43rd.

In the hammer throw, Bourassa (38.90M) and Monette (32,59M) placed ninth and 16th overall, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Manyok , Bueno Campos, Cattelan and Michaelidis turned in a solid second place time of 3:36.37 to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.
