Manyok qualifies for All-NE's in the 10,000 meter

New London, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team placed tenth at the 2023 Silfen Invitational with a total of 32 points this afternoon at Connecticut College.

Junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) paced the Falcons finishing 12th in the 10,000 meter with an ALL-New England qualifying and personal best time of 32:02.78, while adding personal best and DIII NE qualifying time of 3:58.02 in the 1500 meter with a fifth place effort.

Freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing second in the javelin with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 54.98 meters, while placing 13th in the shotput (11.92M), tenth in the discus (37.52M) and 18th in the hammer throw (36.53M).

Junior Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) turned in an eighth place, DIII NE qualifying time of 16.21 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, while junior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) took top honors in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.88 meters as well placing seventh in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.34 meters.

In the 100 meter, senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) (18th), Auston (34th) and sophomore Elijah Zaire-McKnight (Tracy, Calif.) (39th) notched post-season qualifying times of 11.30, 11.67 and 11.74 seconds, while in the 200 meter, Felix (23.70), freshman Nicholas Polanco (Miami, Fla.) (23.90) and McKnight (24.12) placed 29th, 36th and 41st.

Newcomer Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.) turned a 38th place time of 56.39 seconds in the 400 meter, while in the 1500 meter, sophomore Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Michael Burns (Worcester, Mass.) posted times of 4:42.13 and 4:46.14.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Felix, McKnight, Polanco and Auston placed seventh with a time of 44.15 seconds, while Burns added a post-season qualifying time of 18:08.48 in the 5000 meter.

In the 400 meter hurdles, senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (23rd) and Michaelidis (26th) notched times of 1:07.11 and 1:10.56, while in the 800 meter, junior Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) (2:03.38) and junior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, Mass.) (2:10.29) finished 36th and 56th respectively.

In the field, senior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) finished eighth in the pole vault with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 3.70 meters, while in the shot put, sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.) (19th) and newcomer Hayden Frew (Brockton, Mass.) (28th) posted throws of 11.55 meters and 10.35 meters.

Sacramone registered a 12th place, MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.70 meters in the high jump, Monette added a 30th place toss of 28.91 meters in the discus.

In the hammer throw, Monette (34.80M) and Frew (22.40M) finished 19th and 30th, while freshman Jovanni Walker (10th) and Auston (16th) qualified for MASCAC's in the triple jump with marks of 12.21 meters and 11.51 meters. Burns rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon, placing 17th in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a PR time of 10:57.74.
