Falcons Excel At Sean Collier Invite

Bourassa notches DIII NE qualifying toss of 53.93 meter in the javelin

Cambridge, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team recently competed at the 2023 Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT at the Henry G. Steinbrenner Track today.

Freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, finishing first overall in the javelin with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 53.96 meters, while placing ninth in the discus with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 40.73 meters

Junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) was also solid for the Green and Gold, placing seventh in the 1500 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time of 3:58.59, while junior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) finished fourth in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark fo 13.54 meters as well as finishing ninth in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.20 meters.

In the 100 meter, senior Nathanial Felix (Worcester, Mass.) (eighth), sophomore Elijah Zaire-McKnight (Tracy, Calif.) (18th) and freshman Nicholas Polanco (Miami, Fla.) (19th) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 11.18, 11.64 and 11.73 seconds, while in the 200 meter, Felix (23.23) and Zaire-McKnight (24.20) finished 18th and 25th respectively.

Junior Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) posted a tenth place time of 53.11 seconds in the 400 meter to qualify for the post-season, while sophomore Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) (2:09.88), junior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, Mass.) (2:11.52) and newcomer Brady Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) (2:13.74) finished 37th, 40th and 41st.

In the 1500 meter, senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) (4:40.67) and newcomer Michael Burns (Worcester, Mass.) (4:42.08) placed 52nd and 53rd with LaBombard qualifying for MASCAC'S, while freshman Paul Michealidis (Acton, Mass.) (40th) and senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (41st) turned in post-season qualifying times of 1:05.09 and 1:05.42 in the 400 meter hurdles.

In the field, junior Shaki Auston (Worcester, Mass.) (11th) and freshman Cole Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) (15th) notched marks of 5.55 meters and 4.97 meters in the long jump, while in the shot put, sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.) (11.57M) and newcomer Hayden Frew (Brockton, Mass.) (9.96M) placed 12th and 20th.

In the discus, Monette posted a 19th place throw of 30.15 meters, while adding a 13th place effort of 34.38 meters in the hammer throw to qualify for MASCAC's. The 4x100 mete relay team of Felix, junior Shaki Auston (Worcester, Mass.), Zaire-McKnight and Polanco finished fourth overall with a time of 45.62 seconds to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.
