Falcons Place Third At MASCAC Championships

Manyok claims four MASCAC titles for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team placed third with a total of 120 points at the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Elliot Field today.

In a pre-meet ceremony, the Fitchburg State Men's Outdoor Track & Field team honored their three seniors: Gene Bouthiette, Cameron Davis & Benjamin Sacramone for their contributions to the program.

Junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) led the way for the Green and Gold, placing first overall in the 10,000 meter with a DIII NE qualifying time of 33:08.73 as well as taking top honors in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a DIII New England qualifying time of 9:59.85 in addition, Taban claimed top honors in the 5000 meter with a time of 16:07.66.

Junior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) was also solid for the Falcons, taking top honors in triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.61 meters, while adding a seventh place effort in the long jump with a mark of 6.19 meters.

Freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) finished second in the javelin with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 58.03 meters in addition to placing fourth in the discus (40.82M) and second in the hammer throw (41.97M) to qualify for DIII NE's in both events.

Junior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) collected an 11th place time of 4:36.04 in the 1500 meter, while classmate Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) finished ninth in the 400 meter with a time of 53.53 seconds.

In the 100 meter, junior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) (4th), freshman Nicholas Polanco (Miami, Fla.) (12th) and newcomer Cole Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) (18th) posted times of 11.21, 11.76 and 13.10 seconds, while senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.09 seconds.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Sacramone (1:02.94) and freshman Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.) (1:02.96) placed sixth and seventh, while freshman Michael Burns (Worcester, Mass.) (3rd) and sophomore Angelo Pinto (Chaplin, Conn.) (5th) posted times of 11:03.67 and 11:15.40 in the 3000 meter steeple chase.

In the 800 meter, Bueno Campos (5th) and sophomore Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) (6th) turned in times of 2:06.62 and 2:07.27, while Felix added a sixth place time of 23.18 seconds in the 200 meter.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Felix, Bouthiette, Polanco and junior Elijah Zaire-McKnight (Tracy, Calif.) placed fourth overall with a time of 46.13 seconds, while the 4x800 meter relay team of Cattelan, freshman Omar Elmi (Worcester, Mass.), junior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, Mass.) and freshman Brady Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) posted a fourth place time of 9:02.80. The 4x400 meter relay team of Felix, Polanco, Michaelidis and Manyok claimed first place time of 3:28.89.

In the field, senior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) finished first overall in the pole vault with a mark of 3.75 meters, while Sacramone posted a fifth place mark of 1.75 meters in the high jump. Sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.) finished eighth in the hammer throw (35.41M) and tenth in the shot put (10.54M).

Freshman Jovanni Walker placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.40 meters, while Bourassa concluded his day, finishing sixth in the shot put with a toss of 12.50 meters.
