Falcons Open 2024 Campaign At Corsair Invite

Bourassa place first overall in four events for Green and Gold

North Dartmouth, MA – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team placed sixth with a total of 70 points at the 2024 Corsair Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth today.

How It Happened

Sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the javelin with an All-New England qualifying toss of 64.85M as well as qualifying for the All NE's in the discus with a first place mark of 45.58 meters. Bourassa also finished first overall in the hammer throw (49.23M) and the shotput (13.17M) to qualify for DIII New England's in both events.

Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold, placing second in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.40 meters and seventh in the long jump (6.14M), while sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) finished second overall in the 10000 meter with a time of 33:28.97.

In the 100 meter, senior Nathanial Felix (Worcester, MA) (12th), newcomer Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (35th) and junior Matthew Radder (West Seneca, NY) (35th) posted times of 11.33, 12.08 and 12.08 seconds, while in the 1500 meter, graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (4:36.23) and junior Cristian Bueno Campos (Brockton, MA) (4:39.46) finished 28th and 30th.

In the 800 meter, freshman Matt Telson (Everett, MA) (13th), sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (14th) and senior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, MA) (18th) notched times of 2:09.51, 2:09.88 and 2:13.93, while Felix (22.98) and Radder (24.60) finished tenth and 36th in the 200 meter.

Freshman Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) (11th) and classmate Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) (18th) turned in times of 1:03.98 and 1:11.99 in the 400 meter hurdles, while Davis (17:46.79) and senior Elijah Stathis (Northampton, MA) (18:53.50) finished 14th and 17th in the 5000 meter.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Felix, Madden, freshman Keenan Ansah and Derrick Tawiah placed sixth overall with a time of 46.23 seconds, while Gill finished ninth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 22.39 seconds.

In the field, junior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) (7th) and freshman John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) (26th) registered tosses of 42.12M and 26.92M in the hammer throw, while in the shotput, Koutsouoa (12.08M) and Monette (12.03M) finished fifth and seventh

In the long jump, Ansah (6.03M) and freshman Cameron Farley (Westminster, MA) (5.13M) placed eighth and 12th, while Farley finished 22nd in the javelin with a throw of 38.50 meters. Gill rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day, finishing 11th overall in the pole vault with a mark of 2.30 meters.
