Bourassa qualifies for All-NE's in the javelin & discus

Cambridge, MA – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team competed at the 2024 Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT today at the Don & Sherie Morrison Track.

How It Happened

Sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons, taking top honors in the javelin (63.15M) and third in the discus (44.17M) to qualify for All-New England's in both events, while adding an eighth-place effort in the hammer throw with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 46.88 meters.

Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing third overall in the triple with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.43 meters, while junior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) finished ninth in the hammer throw with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 46.47 meters and 16th in the shotput with a toss of 11.95 meters.

In the 1500 meter, graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (26th), senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, MA) (35th), junior Casey LaCombe (South Hadley, MA) (38th), junior Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, CT) (39th) and junior Joshua Leaffer (North Andover, MA) (40th) turned in times of 4:32.92, 4:45.99, 4:57.22, 4:57.22 and 4:59.03 respectively.

Freshman Matt Telson (Everett, MA) finished 17th in the 400 meter with a time of 54.24 seconds, while in the 100 meter, newcomers Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) (11.53), Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (11.78), Matt Mattot (11.85) and Derek Tawiah (12.43) as well as sophomore Cole Donelan (Fitchburg, MA) (12.95 and classmate Robert Williams (14.02) finished 22nd, 27th, 32nd, 33rd, 44th and 45th respectively.

In the 800 meter, sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) turned in a 48th place time of 2:07.43, while newcomer Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) placed 12th overall with a time of 1:09.54.

In the field, freshman John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) placed 13th overall in the shotput with throw of 12.45 meters, while in javelin, newcomer Cameron Farley (Westminster, MA) registered a 17th place throw of 34.07 meters to round out the top Falcon efforts on the day.
