Cyrus Tabbed MASCAC Co-Rookie Of The Year

Forgues selected to MASCAC All-Conference first team; Flaherty named to MASCAC All-Conference second team

FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 1, 2013) – The Fitchburg State softball team named two player to the 2013 MASCAC All-Conference teams as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman Tori Cyrus (Everett, Mass./Everett) led all honorees, being named the MASCAC’s Softball Co-Rookie of the Year, while junior second baseman Ashley Forgues (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) was selected to the MASCAC All-Conference first team. Sophomore outfielder Colleen Flaherty (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) rounded out the honorees for Fitchburg State, with a second team All-Conference selection.

Cyrus collects her first post-season accolade after witnessing a stellar rookie campaign for the Falcons softball team. The freshman third baseman batted .361 with a team leading 44 hits including 10 doubles, 23 runs scored, four triples, a homerun and 20 RBI in 38 games for Fitchburg State.

Forgues earns her first MASCAC All-Conference selection after registering a solid junior campaign. The second year Falcon finished third on the squad, with a .302 batting average (38-for-126) while leading both the team and conference in stolen bases with 22.

Flaherty also collects her first MASCAC All-Conference selection after posting a team-best .365 batting average with 31 hits including four doubles, one triple, and 12 runs scored, while currently tied for the team lead in RBI with 20.

The Fitchburg State softball team returns to action on Thursday as it hosts the Vikings of Salem State University in a MASCAC Quarterfinal round game at 4 p.m..
