Softball Collects Two All-Conference Honors

Alcott and Gemma selected to MASCAC All-Conference second team

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 30, 2014) – The Fitchburg State softball team named two player to the 2014 MASCAC All-Conference teams as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Senior pitcher Kerry Alcott (Groton, Mass.) and sophomore shortstop Marissa Gemma (Leominster, Mass.) were selected to the MASCAC All-Conference second team as voted upon by the league's coaches.

Alcott collects her first post-season accolade after witnessing an outstanding senior campaign for the Falcons softball team. The second-year hurler finished second within the conference in ERA (1.61) and strikeouts (139), while posting an overall record of 7-6 in 19 appearances for the Green and Gold.

Gemma also collects her first MASCAC All-Conference selection after posting a team-leading .347 batting average with 34 hits including six doubles, three triples, 14 runs scored and 12 runs batted in.

The Fitchburg State softball team returns to action on Thursday as it visits the Lancers of Worcester State University in a MASCAC tournament opening round game at 7 p.m.
