Roger Williams Defeats Fitchburg State, 3-0

Whiting collects first collegiate hit for Falcons in setback

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Fitchburg State University softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Hawks of Roger Williams University at the National Training Center Athletic Complex in Clermont, Florida this afternoon.

Roger Williams got a strong pitching performance from junior Meghan Maliga, who pitched a complete game two-hitter with three K's and a pair of walks to earn the victory, while sophomore Terri Ferrazzani and senior Brittany Whiting combined to allow three runs (2 earned) and two strikeouts for the Falcons.

For Fitchburg State, senior Amanda Whitelaw finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a single, while Whiting added to the offensive mix with a bunt single in the fifth inning for her first collegiate hit.

Senior Alana Peoples led the offensive charge for the Hawks, going 3-for-4 at the dish with a double, one run scored and one RBI, while junior Taylor Messier posted a pair of singles and one run scored for Roger Williams.

Fitchburg State (3-4, 0-0 MASCAC) will be back in action tomorrow as it takes on New England College at 1 p.m. and the Coast Guard Academy at 3 p.m. to close out its 2015 Florida spring trip.
