Fitchburg State Takes Two From Fisher

Fitchburg State collects 7-0 game one win; Registers 12-0 victory in the night cap

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University softball team swept a pair of contests from the Fisher College Falcons by the scores of 7-0 and 12-0 in non-conference action this afternoon at the Donna-Lee Withington Memorial Softball Field.

Fitchburg State 7, Fisher College 0 (Game 1)

In the opening contest, freshman Kaylee Sylvestre went 3-for-4 with a run batted in, while junior Jessalynne Brown and sophomore Katie Gildea registered one hit and one RBI each. For Fisher, junior Kristina Brown finished 2-for-3 at the dish, while classmates Victoria Park and Mikayla Zimmerman added one hit each for the visitors.

In the circle, Sylvestre collected the win for the Green and Gold, pitching a complete game, five hitter with six K's, while Zimmerman took the loss for Fisher, allowing seven runs (4 earned) on ten hits and five strikeouts.

Fitchburg State jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first as Cyrus reached on a fielding miscue, moved to second on a single by classmate Marissa Gemma before Brown doubled in Gemma following a miscue that allowed Cyrus to cross the plate, while Gildea and Sylvestre added run scoring hits as well for the 5-0 advantage.

The Green and Gold upped its margin in the bottom of the fourth when Gemma took advantage of fielding miscue, coming around to score, before Sylvestre drove in newcomer Haley McCarthy later in the frame, resulting in the 7-0 game one final.

Fitchburg State 12, Fisher College 0 (Game 2)

In the night cap, Fitchburg State took a 3-0 margin in the opening stanza as Brown knocked in Cyrus with an RBI ground out, while sophomore Emily Comtois doubled in Gemma and senior Brianna Uga plated Comtois.

The Green and Gold tacked on seven runs in the following inning when Comtois laced a double into the left center gap to score Gemma, while Uga and freshman Michelle LeBlanc added two-run doubles in the frame, en-route to the 12-0 game two victory.

Uga sparked Fitchburg State's game two offense, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI, while M. LeBlanc hit 2-for-2, including a double, one run scored and a pair of RBI.

On the bump, junior Galen Kerr went the distance for Fitchburg State, pitching a complete game, one-hitter with five strikeouts, while Zimmerman suffer the setback for Fisher, yielding 12 runs on 16 hits and three K's.

Fitchburg State (17-17, 5-7 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts the Vikings of Salem State on senior day for a double header, starting at 12 p.m. Fisher (5-31) will host Maine Presque-Isle on Saturday for a twin bill, starting at 12 p.m.
