Softball Picked Third In Pre-Season Poll
Falcons notch 34 points in 2020 MASCAC Softball Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State softball team was recently picked third overall in the 2020 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
The Bears of Bridgewater are the pre-season pick to win the 2020 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball championship in a vote of the league's coaches. The defending Co-MASCAC regular season champions collected six first place vote en-route to amassing 48 points, while Framingham State followed in second place with 42 points, which included the remaining two first place ballots
Following in the third slot was Fitchburg State with a total of 34 points, while Westfield State landed in the fourth spot with 32 points. MCLA was next, sitting in the fifth spot with 24 points, while the Lancers of Worcester State were picked to finish sixth with 21 points.
Salem State slide into seventh with 16 points, while the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy closed out this year's softball pre-season poll in eighth place with a total of seven points.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
