Falcons Drop Pair Of Contests On Final Day At Fast Pitch Dreams Classic

Drop 8-0 decision to Iowa Wesleyan; Fall 13-6 to Franciscan in nightcap

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Fitchburg State softball team concluded its annual spring trip to Myrtle Beach this evening, dropping an 8-0 decision to the Wildcats of Iowa Wesleyan in the opener before falling 13-6 to the Barons of Franciscan University in the night cap at the 2020 Fast Pitch Dreams Classic.

How It Happened

In game one, Iowa Wesleyan jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third as sophomore Emma McDaniel (Moravia, Iowa) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, while junior Alex Eyman (Burraurer, Australia) and senior Morgan Christner (New London, Iowa) added RBI's in the frame.

The Tigers secured the victory in the bottom of the fifth when senior Allison Daum (Victorville, Calif.) and newcomer Ashley Pfadenhauer (West Burlington, Iowa) notched run scoring doubles, resulting in the 8-0, game one final.

In game two, Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the second as sophomore Morgan Cormier (Leominster, Mass.) doubled to right field in drive in Harnois and freshman Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.).

The Falcons continued to chip away at the deficit in the bottom half of the fifth with sophomore Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, R.I.) singling up the middle to plate graduate student Kayla Baker (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to make the score 6-3.

Franciscan pushed its lead to 7-3 in the sixth before the Green and Gold answered back with a pair of runs when newcomer Abbie Roderick (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Baker collecting RBI. The Barons would secure the victory though, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh, resulting in the 13-6 final.

  • Senior Mikayla Harnois (Attleboro, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons with one walk
  • Harnois took the loss for Fitchburg State, allowing eight runs (6 earned) on ten hits with two K's in 4.2 innings of work
  • Fourth meeting with the Falcons 2-2 vs the Barons
  • Cormier paced the Green and Gold, hitting 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
  • Junior Taylor Colvin (Lancaster, Mass.) suffered the setback, allowing 13 runs on 14 hits with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched
