Falcons Drop Twin Bill To Lasers In Non-Conference Action

Moreau notches seven K's for Green and Gold

Newton, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Lasers of Lasell University by the scores of 4-3 and 11-0 in non-conference action from Taylor Field this afternoon.

How It Happened

Game One

Lasell grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth as sophomore Mackenzie Still (Middleboro, Mass.) singled to left field to bring in junior Ally Kirck (Hamden, Conn.) before freshman Alyssa Bland (Camden, Maine) laid down a sacrifice bunt to score junior Katie Hopkins (Garden City Park, N.Y.).

Fitchburg State trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fifth when junior Dana Cisowski (Torrington, Conn.) doubled to center field to bring in classmate Allison Pogorek (Millbury, Mass.).

Ereaching on fielding miscue, allowing Kirkconnell to cross the plate. Before the Green and Gold grabbed a 3-2 edge in the top of the seventh as sophomore Julia Gauvin (Granby, Mass.) scored on a fielding error.

The Lasers secured the victory in the bottom of the seventh though when Krick singled to center field to bring in freshman Emily Stillwell (Beverly, Mass.), while graduate student Brianna Gendreau (Warren, R.I. ) came home on a throwing error for the 4-3 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Mantegani led the way for the Falcons, going 2-for-4
  • Cisowski finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI
  • Junior Mary Kate Moreau (Berkley, Mass.) took the loss for the Fitchburg State, allowing four runs (3 earned) on seven hits with seven K's over 6.2 innings pitched
  • For the Lasers, Kirck hit 2-of-3 with double, one run scored and an RBI
  • Sophomore Meghan Theall (Billerica, Mass.) earned the win for Lasell, giving up one run on one hit in one inning of relief

 

Game Two

Lasell grabbed a 7-0 advantage in the bottom on the first as junior Katie Hopkins (Garden City Park, N.Y.) doubled to right field to score Gendreau and Kirck, while Bland and newcomer Abigail Fortin (North Smithfield, R.I.) added RBI singles.

The Lasers secured the victory in the bottom of the fourth as newcomer Grace Stephenson (Bristol, R.I.) and Fortin registered t-wo run singles, resulting in the 11-0, game two triumph.

Inside the Numbers

  • 13th meeting between Fitchburg State and Lasell on the softball field with the Falcons 6- 7 all-time when taking on the Lasers
  • Gauvin paced the Falcons, hitting 1-for-1 with a double
  • Sophomore Isabella Sousa (Charlton, Mass.) went 1-for-1 for the Green and Gold
  • Freshman Madison Solt (Salem , N.H.) allowed four runs on six hits with one K over 2,2 innings of relief in a no decision for Fitchburg State
  • For the Lasers, Fortin finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI
  • Theal earned the win for Lasell giving up just two hits with one strike out in the complete game effort
