Rogers nets 20 points in Falcons fifth MASCAC victory

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (January 31, 2009) - Sophomore Kelley Rogers (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) registered a game-high 20 points as Fitchburg State downed Framingham State, 74-44 in MASCAC action this afternoon.

points in the Falcons fifth MASCAC
victory of the season.

Rogers led all scorers on 7-of-12 shooting, while adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals to her solid performance. Classmate Melissa Proffitt (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional) aided Rogers on the Falcon attack a 15 point, six rebound effort, while junior Kari Averill (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) and freshman Rebecca Goreham (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) chipped in with eight points apiece.

Senior Allison Hart (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) led the Framingham State attack with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds, while junior Toya Chester (Leominster, Mass./Ayer) added eight points and seven boards. Sophomore Jill Johnson (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) was also solid with seven points and five rebounds.

Fitchburg State opened the contest with a 19-6 run and continued to pressure the Framingham State defense as the Falcons grabbed a 46-22 lead at the break. Rogers led the Falcons with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, while Proffitt connected for 11 points (4-of-5 shooting) and four rebounds.

In the second half, Fitchburg State's offense continued to soar while its defense increased the game's tempo, forcing 17 turnovers in the second period. Fitchburg State posted 21 steals throughout the game, including 13 in the second half, as the Falcons cruised to their 12th victory of the season. Sophomore Molly Maloney (Taunton, Mass./Taunton) led the Falcons offensively with seven points in the half, while Hart tallied nine for the Rams.

Fitchburg State (12-7, 5-2 MASCAC) will hit the court again on Thursday as it travels to Rhode Island College at 7 p.m. Framingham State (8-11, 2-5 MASCAC) will travel to Bridgewater State on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
