Fitchburg State Silences Salem State, 81-57
Falcons used balanced attack as all 13 players register points
SALEM, Mass. (January 22, 2009) - Sophomore Kelley Rogers (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) led all scorers with a game-high 12 points as Fitchburg State collected an 81-57 MASCAC victory over Salem State College this evening.

Rogers led the Falcons sharp-shooting attack, hitting 5-of-7 shots from the field, while adding two rebounds and two assists. Junior Kari Averill (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) was also solid with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-4 from downtown, while sophomore Melissa Proffitt (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional) completed the Falcons triple-threat with ten points, nine rebounds and two steals.
Freshman Nicole Boutin (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee) was strong offensively for Salem State, posting a team-high 11 points and nine rebounds. Classmate Breanna Comeau (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) added nine points, three rebounds and two blocks for the Vikings, while junior Jakoya Wilkins (Dorchester, Mass./Bedford) chipped in with eight points, four boards and four assists.
Fitchburg State opened the contest on fire, shooting over 55% from the field to gain a 41-17 advantage at the intermission. Averill led the Falcons scoring surge with all of her 11 points in the first half, while Rogers netted eight on 4-of-5 shooting.
In the second half, Fitchburg State went up by as much as 35 as sophomore Kim Duprey (Bernardston, Mass./Pioneer Valley) deposited a three-pointer to cap a 20-8 drive with 2:53 remaining in regulation. The Falcons used a balanced second half attack as all 13 players collected points in the contest.
Fitchburg State (10-6, 3-1 MASCAC) will be in action on Thursday as it travels to Salem State College at 6 p.m. Salem State (6-10, 1-3 MASCAC) will host Bridgewater State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
