Bridgewater State Shoots Past Fitchburg State, 90-47

Wodzinksi registers team leading 14 points for the Falcons

FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 5, 2013) – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team drooped a 90-47 decision to MASCAC rival Bridgewater State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action this afternoon at the recreation center.

With the victory, Bridgewater State improves to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the MASCAC, while the Falcons even their record at 6-6 overall and an 0-1 mark in conference play.

Bridgewater State jumped out to a 36-20 advantage after one half of play behind strong shooting from seniors Michaela Cosby (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Elisha Homich (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow), who combined for 23 points in the stanza.

Freshman Megan Wodzinski (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) led the Falcons charge, totaling a team-leading 14 points and six rebounds on 6-of-15 shooting from the field, while junior Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) added nine points, six caroms and three assists on the afternoon.

For the Bears, Cosby posted a double-double, registering a game high 16 points and ten boards and seven assists on 6-of-9 shooting, while junior Megan Boutilette (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill) was also strong, tallying 13 points (6-of-8) and seven caroms. Three other Bears recorded double digits as Homich notched 12 points, while juniors Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow)  and Colleen Hanscom (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) finished with 11 and ten points respectively.

For the game, Bridgewater State shot 47.3% from the field, including 20-of-41 in the first half. The Falcons controlled the glass with a slim 42-41 margin, while hitting 8-of-12 free throws (66.7%).

Fitchburg State (6-6, 0-1 MASCAC) will be back in action on Wednesday as it visits Fisher College at 6 p.m. Bridgewater State (9-2, 1-0 MASCAC) will travel to Framingham State University for a contest starting at 6 p.m.
