Fitchburg State Shuts Down Fisher, 92-40

Six Falcons register double-digit efforts in non-conference victory

BOSTON, Mass. (January 9, 2013) – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team had six players registered double-digit efforts as the Falcons downed Fisher College, 92-40 at Fectau-Leary Gym on Wednesday night.

Junior Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) led all Fitchburg State scorers with 15 points and four rebounds, while senior Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) and sophomore Tara Ingram (Palmer, Mass./Palmer) added 12 points apiece. Freshman Taylah Pelote (East Taunton, Mass./Taunton), classmate Andrea DeSousa (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy) and sophomore Kristen Enright (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) all chipped in with ten points each.

The Falcons were electric on both sides of the ball, earning their seventh victory of the season with 53.1% shooting from the field. Fitchburg State shot 22-of-38 in the first half en route to a 47 point outburst, while limiting Fisher to just 21 points in the frame. Fahey led all first half scorers with 13 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting, while sophomore Megan Wodzinski (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) added seven points, including a basket from beyond the arc.

In the second half, the Fitchburg State defense was just as good, holding Fisher to just 17.6% shooting and only 19 points. Merchant was strong in the half for the Falcons, posting ten points and five caroms, while Ingram and Pelote completed their nights with eight points each.

For the contest, the Falcons dominated the boards, holding a 64-30 advantage on the glass. Fitchburg State forced 17 Fisher turnovers with nine steals and six blocks on the evening, while finishing 43-of-81 from the field.

Fitchburg State (7-6, 0-1 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts MASCAC foe, Framingham State at 1 p.m. Fisher (0-13, 0-0 AMC) will visit Maine Presque Isle on Saturday at 8 p.m.
