Framimgham State Rams Fitchburg State, 90-63

Fahey tallies a game-high 29 points in Falcons MASCAC setback

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (February 2, 2013) – Junior guard Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass.) led five Rams in double figures as the Framingham State University women's basketball team defeated Fitchburg State University 90-63 this afternoon in MASCAC action at Framingham's Athletic & Recreation Center.

With the win, the Rams improve to 12-8 on the year and 5-4 in the MASCAC, while the Falcons are now 9-11 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

Hoffman tallied a team-high 19 points including 5-of-8 from behind the arc to go along with five rebounds, two assists and seven steals.  Senior forward Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) added 16 on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor, while senior Madeleine Park (Blue Hill, ME) chipped in 12 points and four rebounds.

The Rams took control of the first half with a 23-2 run that broke open a two point game to take a 29-6 lead with 11:19 left in the half.  The run was capped by a Hoffman three in transition off one of her six first half steals.  During the stretch the Rams turned 10 Fitchburg State turnovers in 20 points.

An Erika Schneider (Rockland, Mass.) layup with 11:03 remaining ended a four minute scoring drought for the Falcons, but the Rams maintained a sizeable advantage throughout the first eventually taking a 54-29 lead into the locker room.  

The Rams converted 18 Falcon first half turnovers into 29 points and shot 57% from the floor led by 13 from Hoffman including three from long range.  The Falcons, who were led by junior Amy Fahey's (Wilmington, Mass.) 15 first half points, struggled from the field in the opening stanza shooting just 33%.

The Rams maintained the large lead through the second half and extended it as many as 38 before securing the 90-63 victory.  In the second frame the hosts cooled off from the floor and shot 47% and 43% from behind the arc, while the Falcons shot 34% and 22% from long range.

The Falcons were led in the game by Fahey, who was the only Falcon to record double figures.  She tallied a game-high 29 points on 11-of-19 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the line to go along with seven rebounds.

Both teams resume MASCAC action on Tuesday night with the Rams traveling to Salem State University for a 5:30 p.m. matchup and the Falcons traveling to Worcester State University at 6 p.m.
