FITCHBURG, Mass. (June 26, 2014) – Fitchburg State University has named Brooke Freeburg as the 12th head coach in the history of the women's basketball program. The announcement was made by Sue Lauder, Director of Athletics at the University.

"I am very pleased to name Brooke Freeburg as the new head women's basketball coach at Fitchburg State University,” said Lauder. "Brooke brings great enthusiasm and knowledge to the University and I am very excited to have her join our staff.”

Freeburg joins the Fitchburg State sidelines after spending the past two seasons with MASCAC rival, Salem State University. An All-American athlete while attending Providence College, Freeburg was a two-sport athlete, competing on both the women’s basketball and track & field teams. As a four-year member and two-year captain of the Friars basketball team, she played in 105 career games with 74 starts. In track & field, Freeburg also dominated, winning 12 invitational meets over her four years, including a pair of Big East Champion honors, four NCAA qualifications and an All-American honor in 2001.

A 2003 graduate of Providence College in Business Management, Freeburg also collected her Master’s of Business Administration from Providence in 2004. Upon graduation, Freeburg was also selected to play in the Slammers Basketball Classic hosted in Bonn, Germany during the summer of 2005.

A native of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Freeburg will assume all head coaching duties effectively immediately.
