FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State University suffered their third loss of the season, falling to Keene State University, 58-44 on Tuesday evening in a non-conference women's basketball contest at the Recreation Center on the campus of FSU.
Keene State started the contest off with a 12-0 run and never relinquished the lead, while holding the Falcons scoreless for the first 5:37 of the contest. The hosts got on the board with a layup by senior guard Laura Cote, who proceeded to lead the Falcons with a team-high eight points in the opening stanza.
Cote cut the Owls deficit to single digits (19-10) at the 7:19 mark of the first on a fast break layup on a pass from classmate Jackie Boffoli, but Keene answered and took the lead back to double figures into halftime, 30-19.
During the second stanza the Falcons were able to cut the deficit down to eight at the 13:59 mark on a Cote jump shot, however the away side would bring their advantage up to as much as 16 in the closing minutes to eliminate any comeback attempt for the Green & Gold.
