Fitchburg State Swoops Past Becker, 70-25

Leveillee leads Falcons past Hawks with team best ten points

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team defeated Becker College, 70-25 in non-conference action this evening at the Leicester Gymnasium.

Junior Stephanie Leveillee paced the Fitchburg State offense with a team-best ten points and eight caroms, while senior Kristen Enright added eight points, eight rebounds, one block and one steal. Sophomore Shabeli Villa and senior Gina Angelini were also solid for the Falcons, combining for 15 points off the bench.

For Becker, senior guard Brooke Martel led all scorers with 13 points, two rebounds and two steals, while newcomer Alycia Dery registered five points, two boards and three steals in the set back.

In the first half, Fitchburg State opened the contest on a 7-0 run in the first three minutes of play on baskets by seniors Britney Payne, Rebecca Fluet and Tara Ingram. The Hawks cut the deficit to 12-9 three minutes later as Martel posted six of Becker's nine points over the stretch.

The Falcons responded with a 20-0 spurt over the next seven and half minutes, en-route to taking a 46-15 advantage into the break. Fitchburg State converted 15-of-42 shots in the first half (35.7%), while turning 28 Hawks turnovers into 27 points on the offensive end.

In the second half, the Fitchburg State defense was just as good, holding Becker to just 21.7% shooting and only ten points. Leveillee was strong in the half for the Green and Gold, posting ten second half points ,while Villa added eight points in the frame

For the contest, the Falcons dominated the boards, holding a 53-31 advantage on the glass. The visitors forced 43 Becker turnovers with 29 steals on the evening, while finishing 26-of-70 from the field.

Fitchburg State (10-5, 2-2 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it travels to MASCAC foe, Worcester State for a contest starting at 1 p.m. Becker (0-14, 0-7 NECC) will visit Mitchell College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
