Fitchburg State Shoots Past MCLA, 65-46

Fluet registers game best 15 points in Falcons MASCAC victory 

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team placed five players in the double figures as they pushed past the MCLA Trailblazers 65-46 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon.

Senior Rebecca Fluet led the Falcons with a total of 15 points followed by classmate Megan Wodzinski with 14.  Laura Cote chipped in with 12, while Britney Payne and Kristen Enright finished with 11 and 10 respectively for the visitors.

With the half time score in favor for the Falcons at 32-24, Fitchburg scored five straight points out of the break, which put them ahead by 13 at 37-23. The Trailblazers cut the deficit to eight at 37-29, but a layup from Fluet started an eight point run to push the Falcons ahead by 16 at 45-29 with 13:29 left in the contest.  MCLA got within ten on a layup from Courtney McLaughlin at 54-44 with 3:18 left, however Fitchburg State answered with four straight points to put the game away.

In the first half, Fitchburg State led much of the way as the Trailblazers went 8-27 from the floor. With 14:38 left in the half, Wodzinski was able to push the Falcons ahead by six. MCLA tried to run, tying the game on two occasions (13-13) at 12:07 and again with 9:41 remaining (17-17). The Falcons reacted with a six point spurt of their own, making the score 23-17.  Turnovers and errors cost MCLA in the first half, as they committed 15 as Fitchburg State took a 32-24 lead into the locker room. 

Payne ended with nine rebounds to lead the Falcons, while finished with seven rebounds and a game best seven assists. The Green and Gold shot a solid 44% from the floor, while forcing 24 Trailblazer turnovers.

Courtney Durivage paced MCLA with 12 points, while McLaughlin ended with ten. Kayla Hotaling grabbed a game best 13 rebounds to lead MCLA as the hosts shot just 28% from the floor. 

Fitchburg State (12-8, 4-5 MASCAC) returns to action on Thursday as it hosts the Amcats of Anna Maria College at 7 p.m. Becker (7-14, 1-8 MASCAC) will host Framingham State University on Tuesday at 7p.m.
