Fitchburg State Hosts Third Annual Special Olympics Basketball Tournament

FITCHBURG, Mass. – On Tuesday evening January 5, the Fitchburg State University men's and women's basketball teams hosted their Third Annual Special Olympics of Massachusetts (SOMA) Basketball Tournament at the Recreation Center. This year's tournament featured four teams from across the region.

As part of the NCAA Division III partnership with Special Olympics, Fitchburg State men's and women's basketball student-athletes and coaches served as officials, scorers, timers, motivators and announcers throughout the event.

Currently, Special Olympics Massachusetts has 179 basketball teams in training, representing programs from across the state with the teams split into three categories, Traditional, Unified Sports and Unified Player Development.
