Falcons Soar Past Fighting Saints, 89-50

Malboeuf nets game-best 22 points for Falcons in non-conference victory 

West Hartford, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team defeated the Fighting Saints of Saint Joseph's (Vt.), 89-50 this afternoon in the consolation game of 2017-18 Saint Joseph's (Conn.) Tip-Off Tournament at the O'Connell Center.

How It Happened

The Green and Gold were sparked by junior guard Mikala Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) with a game-best 22 points, three rebounds and one steal, while sophomore Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) posted 20 points, six boards, five assists and one steal. Newcomer Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass.) added to the mix as well, finishing with 12 points, three caroms, three assists, one steal and three blocks.

For the Fighting Saints, freshman guard Dymond Collins (Chester, Penn.) netted a team-leading 11 points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist, while sophomore Daja Black (Germantown, Maryland) chipped in with six points, three caroms and two steals. Junior Allesha Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the top efforts Saint Joseph's with eight points, five boards and one steal.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg State shot 31-of-75 (41.3%) from the field and 39.3% (11-for-28) from three point range.

Saint Joseph's (Vt.) finished 16-for-64 (25.0%) overall, including (7-of-28) 25.0% form beyond the arc.

The Falcons held a 57-46 advantage on the glass, while also forcing 25 turnovers.

This afternoon's contest marked the first ever meeting between the two schools on the basketball court.
