Marazzi and Malboeuf combine for 31 points in non-conference setback 

Boston, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball suffered a tough 81-67 setback to the Beacons of UMass Boston in non-conference action at the Clark Athletic Gymnasium this evening.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State was led by sophomore guard Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) with game-best 17 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal, while junior Mikala Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) collected 14 points, seven boards, one assist and one steal. Newcomer Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass.) chipped in with eight points, six caroms, one steal and one assist.

For UMass Boston, freshman forward Joie Grassi (Plymouth, Mass.) posted a team-leading 14 points, four boards, two blocks and one assist, while senior Raven Kelsey (Boston, Mass.) aided the Beacons offense with 13 points, six caroms, two assists and one steal. Sophomore Alecia Quinones (Stoughton, Mass.) was also solid for the host, finishing with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg State shot 23-for-75 (30.7%) from the field and 28.0% (7-of-25) from three point range.

UMass Boston finished 30-for-71 (42.3%) overall, including (8-of-20) 40.0% from beyond the arc.

The Beacons held a 50-40 margin on the boards, while the Falcons finished with a slim 30-29 advantage in bench points.

24th meeting between two schools on the basketball court with the Falcons 8-16 all-time when taking on the Beacons.

UMass Boston has won six of the last seven contest with Fitchburg State, including an 81-75 triumph last season (11/22/2016).
