Falcons Fall to Bears of Bridgewater State in MASCAC Play

Fitchburg, Mass. - The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team fell to the Bears of Bridgewater State, 102-67 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Bridgewater State raced out to a 9-3 margin on five points from sophomore Olivia Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) and a pair of buckets from junior Destiny Fitzgerald (Medford, Mass.). The Falcons cut the deficit to 16-13 with a three-point play from senior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) however the Bears closed out the first frame with an 8-2 run to lead 24-15.

2nd quarter

Junior Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.) drained a trey with eight minutes to play to chip the Bears lead to 26-20. The Bears extended their advantage (42-25) with four straight points from Dziadyk. The Falcons finished the first half with a bucket from beyond-the-arc from Holmes and a layup from senior Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, NH) to trail 48-30 at intermission.

3rd quarter

Bridgewater upped its lead (55-35) on a layup from Fitzgerald through the quarter. The Falcons finished the frame with four points from sophomore Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.) to trail 67-53.

4th quarter

Sophomore Hannah Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) drained a trey for the Bears for the 84-61 lead, but the Falcons counter as freshman Lindsay McDonald (Stoughton, Mass.) and junior Samantha Maglione (Bolton, Mass.) had late scores resulting in the 102-67 final. 

Inside the Numbers

• Falcons were led by Coppinger with a team-best 16 points and 11 rebounds
• Holmes added 11 points, while Marazzi, McDonald and Harold each had 8 points for the Green and Gold
• Senior Emma Thomson (York, ME) became the Falcons all-time leader in three-pointers made with 223
• For the Bears, Hannah Dziadyk led all scorers with 19 points off the bench,  Fitzgerald finished with eighteen points and seven boards
• This evenings contest is the 69th meeting between two schools with Falcons 15-54 all-time vs the Bears
• Fitchburg State shot 25-for-62 (40.3%) from the field and (6-for-18) 33.3% from three point range
• Bridgewater State finished 42-of-76 (55.3%) overall and (12-for-28) 42.9% for beyond the arc
• Bears held a 43-33 margin on the glass
