Women's Basketball Falls to Vikings on Senior Night

FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State women's basketball was defeated by the Vikings of Salem State this evening in conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/14/24

- Score: Salem 80, Fitchburg 66

- Records: Salem (12-12, 5-6 MASCAC), Fitchburg (5-19, 2-9 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Fitchburg would struggle in the first half to get anything going on offense. The Vikings had a good half and brought a 38-27 lead into the break. The Falcons would come out of the break and outscore the Vikings in the third quarter 21-to-19. Salem would shake off the Falcons rally and extend their lead back out to a peak of 18 in the fourth quarter.

- Helping the Vikings secure the victory was Kylie Gates, who had an impressive night, scoring 33 points along with eight assists and four rebounds. Ernidia Goncalves also went off this evening for 21 points and 18 rebounds.

- For the Falcons, Rylie Harlow (Hanson, MA) topped the team again with a 21-point performance. She also pulled down seven rebounds and had five assists. Following her was senior Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, MA), who had a season-high 18 points.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting: Salem shot 39.2% from the floor, 17.6% from three, and 75% from the line. Fitchburg shot 28.7% from the floor, 32.1% from three, and 57.9% from the line.

-  Rebounds: Fitchburg 60, Salem 51

-  Assists: Fitchburg 18, Salem 17
