Women's Basketball Falls to Westfield in MASCAC Quarterfinals

WESTFIELD, MA: Fitchburg State women's basketball was surpassed by the Owls of Westfield State in the MASCAC Quarterfinals this evening.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/20/24

- Score: Westfield 108, Fitchburg 54

- Records: Westfield (17-9), Fitchburg (5-21)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Owls defense kept the Falcons to just 29 points through the first three quarters of the contest. Fitchburg would have their best quarter in the fourth scoring 25 points. Westfield would put up 26 in the fourth to grow their lead. Maddie Pond scored 39 points for the Owls, topping all scorers this evening. Jordan Grand had seven points but contributed heavily on rebounds, finishing with a game-high 16 rebounds.

- The Falcons were led by Rylie Harlow (Hanson, MA), who came on late in the fourth quarter to finish with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Stephanie Hart (Shirley, MA) topped the team in boards with 12, along with her four points.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting: The Owls shot 40.4% from the floor, 31.6% from three, and 50% from the line. The Falcons shot 24.6% from the floor, 27.6% from three, and 70.6% from the line.

-  Rebounds: Westfield 62, Fitchburg 59

-  Assists: Westfield 32, Fitchburg 10
