Women's Basketball Topped By Ducks In Non-Conference Action

Hart paces Green and Gold with 17 points

Daytona Beach, FLA – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team suffered a 76-52 setback to the Ducks of Stevens Tech in non-conference action this afternoon at the Daytona Florida Sunshine Shootout.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Stevens Tech grabbed a 13-6 advantage as junior Olivia Schubiger (Morristown, NJ) hit a jumper before Fitchburg State answered with a bucket by senior Stephanie Hart (Shirley, MA) to make the score 17-8. The Green and Gold trimmed the deficit to 22-11 when junior Aliza Som (Lowell, MA) registered a layup, but the Ducks pushed the advantage to 26-11 on a basket from freshman Katherine Bogutsky (Edison, NJ).

2nd quarter

Stevens upped the lead to 30-11 when junior Dorothy Loffredo (Manasquan, NJ) registered a layup, but the Falcons responded (30-15) with buckets from Hart and junior Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA). Senior Rylie Harlow (Hansen, MA) drained a three-ball to cut the lead 32-18 before junior Leyla Castro (Old Bridge, NJ) buried a three-pointer for the Ducks to make the score 39-21 going into the break.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State reduced the margin to 43-26 with Tanner connecting a three-pointer and a Harlow bucket before Stevens extended the advantage to 46-26 as junior Isabella Duval (North Haledon, NJ) knocked down a three-ball. Duvall notched another three-pointer for the Ducks to up the lead to 55-29, but Hart and Som proceeded to net buckers for the Green and Gold to trim the lead to 56-37.

4th quarter

The Falcons continued to battle with Hart sinking three free-throws (58-40) before Stevens Tech pushed the lead to 62-44 when senior Lucy Alberici (Hazlet, NJ). The Green and Gold answered back on a pair of baskets by Harlow, but the Ducks secured the victory with a bucket from Bogutsky, resulting in the 76-52 final.

  • Hart led the way for Fitchburg State with 17 points, ten rebounds, two assists and one steal
  • Harlow chipped in with 11 points, six boards, two assists and one steal
