Women's Basketball Upended By Rams On Senior Day

Hart finishes with team-leading 14 points for Green & Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Women's Basketball team suffered a tough 80-58 setback to the Rams of Framingham State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Framingham State raced out to a 7-2 advantage as freshman Jacqueline Schels (Hamburg, NJ) drained a three-ball before Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 10-8 when senior Rylie Harlow (Hansen, MA) registered a layup.

The Rams pushed the margin to 20-12 with Schels hitting a jumper, but the Falcons answered back as senior Kathryn Hart (Shirley, MA) connected on a pair of free-throws.

2nd quarter

The Green and Gold continued battle, trimming the lead to 25-23 with senior Caileen Hurley (Whitman, MA) registering a jumper, but the visitors extended the lead to 27-23 when Schels notched a layup.

The Falcons reduced the deficit to 33-30 when junior Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA) buried a three-pointer before the Rams upped the lead to 37-30 going into the break as Schel knocked down a pair from the charity stripe.

Following the intermission, Framingham State went on an 11-0 run, capped by a layup from senior Chloe Rayko (Coventry, RI) before Fitchburg State answered back as Harlow sank two free-throws (51-33).

The Rams pushed the advantage to 57-33 when Schels notched a layup, but the Falcons responded with junior Alexis DeSimone (Ashburnham, MA) hit two from the charity stripe to make the score 57-35.

4th quarter

Framingham State upped the margin to 65-38 as freshman Haleigh Cyrus (Billerica, MA) knocked down a three-ball, but Fitchburg State countered with Harlow netting a layup to cut the lead to 65-40.

The Green and Gold answered back when senior Morgan Genness (Belgrade, ME) hit a layup to cut the deficit to 69-53 before the Rams secured the victory as senior Katherine Haselton (Greenfield, MA) connected on a layup, resulting in the 80-58 final.

This afternoon was senior day and the Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team honored five seniors playing in their final regular season with seniors being #00 Morgan Genness, #14 Kathryn Hart, #22 Rylie Harlow, #23 Caileen Hurley and #25 Stephanie Hart.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by Hart with a team-best 14 points, one rebound, one assist and one block
  • Harlow added 13 points, seven caroms, one assist and one steal
  • For the Rams, Schels finished with a game-leading 31 points, eight boards, one assist, one steal and four blocks

  • Rams finished with a 55-48 margin on the glass
