Falcons midfielder collects second weekly honor with 11 goals in the week

FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 31, 2009) - Fitchburg State freshman Amanda Burns (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) was named the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Rookie of the Week by the conference office yesterday.

Burns earns her second NEWLA Rookie of the Week honor after leading the Falcons to a 1-1 week with 11 goals, 11 groundballs, nine draw controls and three caused turnovers. Burns lifted the Falcons to their first victory of the season by tallying six goals and four groundballs in a commanding 18-5 win over St. Joseph's College (CT). For an encore performance, Burns registered five more goals in a tough overtime setback to conference rival, Worcester State.

This season, Burns has been nothing but stellar for Fitchburg State. The rookie sensation currently ranks first on the team in goals with 23 scores, while ranking second overall in scoring with 25 points. Burns also ranks among league leaders in goals scored with 4.60 goals per game (3rd), while ranking eighth overall in scoring with 5.00 points per game.
