Burns collects a game-high seven points in Falcons sixth victory of season

WATERVILLE, Maine (April 25, 2009) - The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team rebounded this afternoon, posting a convincing 16-2 victory over Thomas College in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance action.


 
Freshman Amanda Burns tallied a
game-high seven points today.

Freshman Amanda Burns (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) led all scorers, posting a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists, while junior Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) notched six points on four scores and two helpers. Freshman Kelley Finamore (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) was also solid with four points, totaling three markers and one assist. Sophomore Megan Denby (Copiague, N.Y./Copiague) and freshman Tanya Berry (South Paris, Maine/South Paris) scored one goal each for the Terriers.

Fitchburg State jumped out to a commanding lead in the first half after scoring the first ten goals of the game. Swan led the Falcons with four goals in the half, while Burns added three. Denby provided the lone goal for the Terriers in the first half, scoring with 6:09 remaining, which would pull the score to 10-1 at the break.

The Falcons remained dominant in the second half, opening with four consecutive goals to take the 14-1 lead. Finamore opened the period with back-to-back scores, while sophomore Connie Perry (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) and classmate Tessa Leahy (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) added one goal each. Berry would add the second goal for the Terriers with 19:24 remaining in the game before Fitchburg put home two more goals to wrap up the scoring.

Senior Jen Astrella (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) collected four saves on the day for the Falcons, while sophomore Nicole Foss (Addison, Maine/Addison) had seven saves for the Terriers.

Fitchburg State (6-8, 3-3 NEWLA) will be in action again tomorrow as it travels to Bridgewater State College at 2 p.m. Thomas  concludes its season with a 1-12 record and an 1-6 mark in the NEWLA.
